Woof was formed in 2003 to help address the plight of homeless, abused, sick, injured, and abandoned animals in New York City. The majority of these animals are turned into the Animal Care and Control shelters.
Woof pulls animals from the city shelters and places them directly into foster care to be treated for medical issues, to be re-socialized and retrained – all in a loving and caring home environment. This allows our animals to re-acclimate to a normal home life before Woof finds them their new forever families.
Adopting an Animal from WOOF
When you adopt a rescue animal, you are making a commitment to love and care for the dog or cat. Arranging regular checkups with the veterinarian, addressing behavioral issues, giving praise and providing a nutritious diet with plenty of exercise are but some of the responsibilities you will be taking on.
In some cases, you must be willing to take your dog to an obedience training class to help establish your leadership and control over unexpected behaviors. In other circumstances, you may need to address an illness or an injury.
